The Temasek Polytechnic West Wing comprises 2 new 5-storey blocks - the Temasek Aviation and Aerospace Centre (TAAC) and the Design School extension. The wings are seen as extensions of the existing School of Engineering and School of Design and thus integrating the new buildings by creating direct connections to the respective school facilities was key to the design brief. Not content with simply creating perfunctory connections, the aim was to weave into circulatory routes a variety of student-centric activity and meeting nodes so as to create buzz and excitement and promote chance encounters and social cohesion. Located at the edge of Tembusu Grove, a large green recreational field facing the idyllic Bedok Reservoir, TPWW provided a new direct link between the campus-wide elevated concourse to Tembusu Grove culminating in a landscaped outdoor Sculpture Court enjoyed and accessible to all.
