The conversion and adaptive reuse of the former Henderson Secondary School into the Henderson Nursing Home showcases the adoption of the 5 R principles – Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle. The sustainable approach maximizes saving with existing resources, retaining and repurposing an existing structure to drastically reducing its carbon footprint. The nursing home is fully ventilated at all times by adopting only louvred and monsoon windows, keeping out rain and glare. The existing parapet with ornate ‘H’ pattern was retained and accentuated by contrasting with infill.
